What is a Deacon?
A deacon is an ordained church member who serves in a role of service and assistance within the church. While the responsibilities and functions of a deacon can vary depending on the denomination, generally deacons are involved in supporting the pastoral leadership, caring for the congregation, and assisting in the administration of church services.

Our deacons also serve as leaders or lay ministers who assist with various church functions, such as managing some church affairs, engaging with the congregation to ensure that needs are being met, and leading ministries.
Some of our "typical" duties include:
-
Assisting/leading aspects of the worship services, such as reading the Gospel, leading prayers, and preparing the altar.
-
Performing baptisms, weddings, and/or assisting with funeral services.
-
Serving our community, as part of the church’s outreach and social justice efforts.
-
Preaching or delivering messages in certain situations, depending on the church need.

Overall, the role of a deacon emphasizes service, both to the church and the community.
