The manger reminds us that Jesus entered the world in humility, choosing a feeding trough instead of a palace so that no one would feel too low or unworthy to come to Him.  It was a sign to the shepherds, a symbol of God's accessibility, and a powerful picture of hope - showing that the Savior came close to the poor, the overlooked, and the hurting.  The manger announces Christ's peace, joy, and comfort are available to all.
